SAT Math / Geometry and Trigonometry
SAT topic
Geometry and trig
Area, angles, right triangles, and circles.
Learning goals
- Label a sketch before choosing a formula.
- Use Pythagorean relationships or right-triangle trigonometry on a right triangle.
Explanation
Sketch the figure, label given measures, and write the relationship you need—Pythagorean theorem, special right triangles, or a circle formula—before substituting numbers.
Common mistakes
- Using a right-triangle ratio on an angle that is not in a right triangle.
- Mixing diameter and radius in a circle formula.
Practice
A rectangular garden is 3 times as long as it is wide. The perimeter is 64 meters. Find the width, the length, and the area. Show the equations you use.

Quick review
- 01Mark right angles and equal sides on the sketch.
- 02Write the formula with symbols, then substitute.
- 03Check whether the question wants a length, area, or angle.
