Encoding, storage, retrieval, and forgetting.
Explanation
Memory is not a single box. Encoding gets information in, storage keeps it, and retrieval brings it back. Forgetting can happen at any of those stages, which is why a missed term on a quiz is not always a sign that you never learned it.
